PRAISE AND PROPAGANDAFROM DAILY LIFE TO CELEBRATION
180 CHRISTIANIA POSTERS FROM THE BIRTH OF THE FREE TOWN TO THE PRESENT
December 1, 2024 – February 16, 2025

Christiania udstilling

Since its establishment in 1971, Christiania has symbolized a vision of freedom, creativity, and community. For others, it has represented a provocative challenge to the norms of mainstream society. For 53 years, Christiania has existed at this intersection, offering an alternative way of life, sustainable urban development, and counterculture. Throughout these years, posters have been a central medium for internal and external communication and artistic expression.

The exhibition PRAISE AND PROPAGANDAFROM DAILY LIFE TO CELEBRATION presents 180 posters that tell stories spanning activism, political protests, climate awareness, artistic creativity, community meetings, support parties, and birthday celebrations in Christiania over the decades. In celebration of the holiday season, the exhibition also features a special Christmas room dedicated to Christiania’s beloved holiday traditions. This includes Advent calendars, Christmas plates, and a large selection of traditional posters from Christiania’s Christmas for the Homeless and its Christmas market, shown together for the first time.

KØS’ Print Workshop for Children
Every day during the museum’s opening hours, we invite families to get creative in our print workshop, designed especially for the exhibition. Here, you can design and create your own personalized Christmas gifts, such as notebooks, posters, and postcards, inspired by the exhibition’s vibrant prints. The workshop is open and free to use throughout the museum’s opening hours.

Children have free admission, and adults accompanying a child receive a 50% discount.

The exhibition is curated by Christiania’s city archivist Ole Lykke Andersen in collaboration with Ulrikke Neergaard, KØS Museum of Art in Public Spaces.

KØS’ exhibition program is supported by Det Obelske Familiefond.
